Jago promoted in Tesco restructure - The Drinks Business

10th December, 2012 by Gabriel Savage

Dan Jago

Having joined Tesco six years ago as category director for beers, wines & spirits, Jago?s new role will see him relinquish responsibility for beers and spirits as he takes responsibility for developing the supermarket?s wine offer in the UK and Ireland, as well as across its international business.

The beer and spirits division will now be headed by Gavin Warburton, who has been with Tesco for 12 years and has been promoted to the role of category director.

Commenting on his new position, Jago described taking responsibility for Tesco?s global wine business as ?a very exciting opportunity and although the current UK market is challenging for wine, I firmly believe that Tesco?s scale can be used for good in the wider industry.

?I have thoroughly enjoyed working with our beer, cider and spirit suppliers during the last six years and will be sad to give up this side of the business; however I look forward to developing my career in this new international role.?

The retailer?s restructuring programme also sees John Farrell promoted to commercial director for packaged foods, wines, beers & spirits. All promotions came into effect on 3 December.
